The Animal Within

Through my love for animals and my portraits, I have become fascinated by the similarities between people and animals and the profound relationship that can exist.  This interest has led me to create paintings such as Lioness, 2006/07 and The Darker Side, 2007.  By combining the animal and human forms, I believe I have created something new and unexpected, something that is neither one thing nor the other, but both.  Not only do I want to capture the physical resemblance between the two but I want to open up the deeper meaning behind why people feel they are like certain animals, I want people to discover their wild side whilst challenging them to recognize what man shares with the animal kingdom.
